Today.com recently reported that six plaintiffs have sued Conagra Brands, the manufacturer behind Pam. And the lawsuits allege that the cooking spray has led to some pretty surprising results.

What’s happening with the Pam, according to the lawsuits?

The plaintiffs claim that the cooking spray exploded while they used it, Today.com explained. And while cooking sprays are known to contain flammable ingredients, the lawsuits also claim that a Pam can design is to blame. Some older models of Pam Cooking Spray featured vents on the bottom, which the lawsuits are alleging contributed to the explosions.

What does Conagra have to say?

The company has issued a statement about the Pam Cooking Spray lawsuits, stressing that the product is safe when used correctly.

“When Pam is used correctly, as instructed, it is a 100-percent safe and effective product. Pam Cooking Spray is used safely and properly by millions of people several times a day, every single day,” says the statement.

In other words, people should be good to use Pam as long as they follow the right safety precautions:

  • Do not spray on Pam on heated surfaces, like hot pots or pans, or near an open flame.
  • Do not puncture the can.
  • Do not expose to heat, and do not store above 120°F.
